A former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, has criticised the incumbent SGF, George Akume, over the recent comment that there is no vacancy in the Presidential Villa in 2027.
Henzodaily recalls Akume, who spoke on Sunday while featuring on a TVC programme, advised Atiku and other northern political bigwigs to shelve the ambition of contesting for the 2027 presidency and wait till 2031 when President Bola Tinubu would have completed his second term in office.
In an interview with Punch, Babachir Lawal said he does not blame Akume for the statement because he spoke as a beneficiary of a dysfunctional system.
The former SFG said the remark that North should wait till 2031 is Akume’s personal opinion and does not represent anyone.
He said, “I did not blame Akume because he is just a spokesman of a system that is not working; he is speaking for himself and it is his constitutional right to air his personal views, but his views do not represent anyone.”
Meanwhile, an expert in strategic management and human capital development, Professor Okey Ikechukwu, has carpeted the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), George Akume, over his recent comments on the 2027 presidential election.
Ikechukwu, while expressing his view during an interview with Arise News, said the comment by Akume was totally unnecessary and distracting.
However, Prof. Ikechukwu urged the SGF to focus on political realities rather than regional entitlements.
He also addressed historical patterns of leadership in Nigeria and the practical challenges of altering the current political structure.
