Why I didn’t attend university – Ice Prince

Feel Good” frontline hip hop rapper and singer Ice Prince has gone down memory lane, recalling the hardships he faced growing up as an orphan.

Ice Prince Zamani, as he is fondly called sometimes, during a recent feature with Listen With Osi podcast, revealed that financial constraints hindered him from pursuing higher education.

The ‘Oleku’ hitmaker further disclosed that turn after his life took a dramatic turn after he lost his father at 11 and his mother at 21.

He said, “I don’t have a mother, I’m an only son and that’s quite tough. I’ve been that way since I was 11 years old when I lost my dad.

“I was 21 or 22 when my mum passed away and I have a family that depends on me. I don’t have any uncles, aunties, Godfathers, or Godmothers that I can depend on. It’s been nothing but God in my life.”

According to the 38-year-old, he had to take on different menial jobs, to support himself and make ends meet.

He said despite his best efforts, he could not pursue a university education due to a lack of funds, specifically N20,000.

“I just want people to look at my life and be like, ‘if this imperfect human can be somebody, I have no excuse to fail.’ I was the guy who would spend at least 3 weeks out of every school term at home because of school fees,” he said.

“I didn’t go to university because of N20,000 which is like one spliff now. That’s the reason I didn’t go, because of N20,000.”I had two weeks to pay that money for registration and I couldn’t come up with it and that’s how I lost the admission and I became a studio rat from there.”
