The Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG), Mr Abiodun Alabi, who retired from the service, says he loves the police uniform and would miss wearing it.
He said this while speaking with journalists during his pulling out parade from the force at the Police College Ikeja on Tuesday after 34 years in service.
The retired DIG said his years in the Force were filled with opportunities which he would also going to miss.
“I am going to miss my interaction and engagement on a daily basis with people.
“I always believe that in my life, I have to serve humanity. In the course of my career, I have met a lot of people and I will be missing the opportunity of meeting people again,” he said.
Alabi said that he had achieved a lot in his 34 years in service.
“If I should start to list my achievements, we will not leave here today.
“I have served in various capacities and all the things I have done in all those areas are the reflection of all my achievements.
“I was able to achieve success with the support of the men that work with me, by showing them an example as a leader and by giving them proper directives and directions on what to do,” the DIG said.
He said that the police job was a training ground for his future life, stressing that his experience in the Force had prepared him for the next level in life.
“I am going into a new phase, it is not over; I am still gallant and vibrate.
“I am going to be involving in security consultancy services and beyond that, I am going to serve my community from where I come from,” he said.
Alabi charged those still in service to continue to be dedicated to their duties and always strive to work within the ambit of the law.
“Whatever they are doing in any capacities they find themselves, they must always conform with the ethical standard of the Nigeria Police Force.
“They must always observe the rule of law which will help them so much and make their job seamless with the collaboration and cooperation of members of the public,” he said.
Alabi, who was a former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, also served as the Assistant Inspector General of Police in-charge of Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos.
He was also appointed as the DIG representing Southwest and posted to Force Criminal Department (FCID) as the head of the department.
