Zimbabwe senior men’s national team head coach Michael Nees has said the Warriors are still in the race in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
The Warriors are bottom in Group C on two points after four games.
Rwanda, South Africa and Benin Republic each have seven points and are first, second and third respectively.
Lesotho occupy fourth spot on five points while the Super Eagles are fifth on three points.
The Warriors will resume the qualifiers on Monday, March 17, 2025, with a home game against Benin Republic.
On Monday, March, 24, 2025, they will face Nigeria’s Super Eagles inside the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo.
When Zimbabwe hosted the Super Eagles in the first-leg on matchday 2 of the qualifiers in November 2023, the game ended 1-1.
Speaking in an interview on Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) Online TV, the 57-year-old German posited that nothing has been decided in the group.
“We are not out yet we need to bring performance and stay in the race,” he said. “We have to catch up, everybody can see the table, two points, minus four goals difference but the group is not yet decided we still have six games to go, 18 points to get.
“For us it’s important we have a good restart in March. We want to do everything possible and say we tried in our powers so let’s see how things go.”
Meanwhile, the Warriors will head into the qualifiers in March on the back of three defeats and one draw in their last four games.
