Vitor Bruno Sacked As Porto FC Coach

FC Porto has terminated Vitor Bruno’s contract with the club.

Henzodaily reports that this development makes Bruno the third manager to be dismissed by one of Portugal’s top three clubs this season.

The 42-year-old succeeded Sergio Conceição, who is now the head coach of AC Milan, during the summer transfer window. His departure follows a series of disappointing results, including consecutive league losses that have hindered Porto’s title aspirations.

The club has confirmed that José Tavares, the director of Porto’s academy, will assume the role of interim coach.

Porto’s recent 3-1 defeat to Gil Vicente marked their third straight loss across all competitions. Prior to this, they were eliminated by Sporting Lisbon in the League Cup semi-finals on January 7.

As a result, Porto has fallen to third place in the league standings, trailing leaders Sporting by four points, while Benfica has ascended to second place following the weekend’s matches.

Earlier this season, Benfica dismissed German coach Roger Schmidt at the end of August, and Sporting parted ways with João Pereira, who had taken over from Ruben Amorim, just over a month after Amorim left for Manchester United.

In other news, former Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, was appointed as the new head coach of Besiktas, marking an exciting new chapter in his career.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has signed an 18-month contract with an option to extend through the 2026-2027 season. This appointment follows his departure from management after his tenure at Manchester United ended in 2021.

Besiktas, a club with a rich history as 16-time champions of the Turkish Super Lig, is currently positioned sixth in the league table. The team has been seeking a permanent head coach since Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s departure in November.

Club officials expressed their confidence in Solskjaer’s ability to contribute positively to the organization, stating, “We believe Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will make significant contributions to our club, and we warmly welcome him to the Besiktas family, wishing him great success.”

During his time at Manchester United, the 51-year-old Norwegian tactician initially took over from Jose Mourinho on an interim basis in December 2018 and later secured a three-year contract in March 2019.
