The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ughelli North Local Government Area of Delta State has passed a vote of confidence on Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, affirming their belief in his leadership of the party in the state.
In a meeting of APC leaders and stakeholders from the local government, an APC chieftain and a former member of the Delta State House of Assembly from Ughelli North, Hon. Abel Oshevire, moved the motion for a vote of confidence on Obarisi Omo-Agege’s continued leadership of APC in the state. It was unanimously adopted by voice vote by party elders, leaders and stakeholders at the meeting.
Addressing the meeting, Omo-Agege assured the party faithful that Ughelli North will emerge stronger ahead of 2027 elections, charging the party leaders to build and consolidate on the gains of the last election. According to him, if leaders in other councils achieved close to what Ughelli North did, APC would have been in Government House in Asaba.
Noting that APC won two of three senatorial seats in Delta, Omo-Agege said the showing effectively debunked the narrative that Delta is a PDP state, adding that with unity among party leaders, APC is poised to take over Delta in 2027.
“What we need to do know is to build on the gains of the last election and consolidate on the area that we did very well, while devising strategies to overcome our areas of weakness ahead of 2027.
“We won in Delta Central and Delta South, so we need to consolidate on these two senatorial districts. We lost in Delta North, therefore, we need to rebuild the party in Delta North, because that is our weakest link.
“Only two days ago as part of our consolidation efforts we were able to attract a political juggernaut, the real lioness of the NIger Delta, Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu and her teaming supporters into Delta APC.
He charged Deltans to hold Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to account on how the huge federal allocation coming to the state is judiciously applied for the overall benefits of Deltans.
“I want Deltans to ask Governor Sheriff Oborevwori on how he is spending our money, because the money he is spending today is meant for the development of the State and to empower Deltans. So, we as a people must hold him to account.
“Delta has received over N900 billion in the past one year and six months, that is even more than the total allocation going to the five states in the South East, but what is Sheriff doing with it, he will say he is building bridges, how much is the bridge? Building a flyover bridge is good, he is using N86 billion for the bridges. However, when you subtract N86 billion from over N900 billion we have over N700 billion, coming to Delta State. Can you tell where such money was spent? This is why Deltans should begin to ask questions,” he added.
Present at the Ughelli APC meeting were the Acting State Chairman of the party, Barr. Francis Obigbor, State Secretary, Surv. Peter Akarogbe and several some members of the State Working Committee (SWC).
Others were the leaders of the party in Abraka, Chief Judith Emuobonuvie Enamuotor, and Ughelli North, Prof. Ibodje as well as Chief Joseph Asa, Dr. Otive Igbuzo, APC chairman in Ughelli North, Mr. Onoabedje Obakpororo, Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi, among other party stalwarts.
