UCL: Nwaneri Named MOTM In Arsenal’s Win Vs Girona

Ethan Nwaneri was named Player of the Match in Arsenal’s 2-1 comeback win against Girona on matchday 8 of the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

A superb strike from Nwaneri helped Arsenal come from behind to beat Girona 2-1 in the Gunners’ last match of the Champions League league phase.

Nwaneri at age 17 years and 314 days, on Wednesday night became the second youngest Englishman to score a UEFA Champions League goal, after Jude Bellingham (17 years and 289 days versus Manchester City in April 2021).

Arsenal We fell behind courtesy of Arnaut Danjuma’s first-time finish but parity was restored 10 minutes later when Jorginho converted from the spot after Thomas Partey had been fouled in the box.

Nwaneri, making his first Champions League start, then provided the game’s outstanding moment, cutting inside onto his left foot before curling the ball into the bottom corner.

Arsenal could have extended their lead late on but Raheem Sterling was denied from the penalty spot by Pau Lopez.

The result means Arsenal finish third in the inaugural Champions League league phase and will enter the competition in the round of 16.
