President Bola Tinubu on Thursday welcomed China’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, Wang Yi, to the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Henzodaily reports that the visit, part of Wang Yi’s two-day working tour of Nigeria, is expected to focus on strengthening bilateral relations.
Discussions will include reviewing the Memorandum of Understanding signed during the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit in China.
Key areas of collaboration, such as the economy, politics, and the oil and gas sectors, will feature prominently in the meeting’s agenda.
Following the discussions, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and Wang Yi are expected to provide a joint press briefing.
Dignitaries present at the meeting included Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila; Minister of Information, Idris Mohammed; and Ambassador Tuggar, among others.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Maitama Yusuf Tuggar, has said Nigeria and China share a long-standing diplomatic relationship built on mutual respect for the two nations.
Tuggar said the diplomatic visit of China’s Foreign Minister, Wang Yi, was to consolidate the foundation of the two countries diplomatic ties.
In a series of tweets on his X handle, on the strategic meeting with his Chinese Counterpart, Yi; Tuggar stated that their discussion centered on trade, capacity building and people-to-people-oriented exchanges.
