The newly appointed Special Adviser on Works to Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, Ahmad Bunkure, is dead.
Henzodaily reports that Governor Yusuf’s spokesperson, Sunusi DawakinTofa, in a statement, said Bunkure died on Wednesday in Egypt, describing the demise as heartbreaking for the state government.
He said condolences have continued to pour in, including from the National leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, and members of the Kano State Government.
The statement reads, “This is a heartbreaking moment for us as a government. Bunkure was a dedicated professional whose expertise and contributions were expected to drive our administration’s vision for development. His loss is deeply felt.”
Recall that Governor Yusuf had announced a fresh round of appointments and reassignments to enhance governance across the state.
Bunkure, sworn in as Special Adviser on Works alongside other appointees, died a day after the swearing-in ceremony.
Meanwhile, the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) endured a tumultuous year in 2024, marked by deep-seated internal conflicts that dashed hopes of consolidating its gains following the Supreme Court’s affirmation of Abba Kabir Yusuf as Kano State Governor.
Political observers had anticipated a united front to strengthen the party’s position as a leading opposition platform, but instead, the NNPP became mired in leadership disputes and factional rivalries.
The party’s troubles escalated when Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso’s loyalists introduced a new party logo—a red-white-red design featuring a book and graduation cap.
The change was rejected by the Boniface Aniebonam-led faction, which insisted on retaining the original basket-of-fruits logo symbolizing abundance.
Speaking to Daily Sun, Agbo Major, the Aniebonam-recognized National Chairman, affirmed, “Our party is one with one logo, which is a basket of fruits on top of the Nigerian map. We have only one chairman, which is myself. The other side is a Kwankwasiyya people. They are not a political party.”
The crisis deepened when the Aniebonam-led faction suspended Governor Yusuf for alleged anti-party activities, extending the suspension by another six months after he failed to respond to a summons.
