Nigerian singer, Teni, and her sister Teju have taken to social media to pay tribute to their late father, Brigadier-General Simeon Apata, who was assassinated 30 years ago.
Teni via her Instagram page shared a heartfelt message, honouring her father’s memory as a hero and icon. She said, “On this day, Nigeria stood still! My hero was taken from us. Keep resting gallant soldier, Apata!!!. My father, an icon, philanthropist, one of a kind. Your legacy will live forever.”
In another post, the singer shared painful memories surrounding their father’s untimely death, revealing how a two-week-old baby was used as bait in the tragic incident.
Teju, reflected on the lasting impact of his death on their family, noting that it stirred an emotional void.
Teni’s sister, Niniola, offered comforting words to Teju, advising her to look into the mirror and see their father’s reflection in herself.
In her tribute, Teju expressed the pain of losing her father, saying, “30 years ago you were assassinated in your home in front of your wife and children. In front of your 2 weeks old baby used as bait.. I never got a chance to take a picture with you.
“But when I spoke to my older sister @officialniniola yesterday said, look in the mirror, every time you see yourself you see him. That one hit deep. Rest in peace Simeon Olaosebikan Apata.”
