Oldham Athletic U19s coach, Chukwuma Akuneto, has exclusively told Completesports.com that the Super Eagles have a “very bright” chance of securing one of the two qualification spots from Group C of the 2025 AFCON in Morocco.

However, Akuneto warned that Tunisia’s Carthage Eagles would pose a significant challenge to the three-time AFCON champions at the group stage of the continent’s flagship tournament.
CAF conducted the draw for the 35th AFCON finals at the Mohamed V Theatre in Rabat, placing Nigeria, Tunisia, Uganda, and Tanzania in Group C.

“Our chances are very bright. We have the players, and now, with a coach who has led a team to AFCON before, it’s an advantage for us,” Akuneto told Completesports.com
Despite his optimism, Akuneto issued a stern warning to Finidi George and his Super Eagles squad, cautioning that facing Tunisia will be no easy task.
“Tunisia, with their wealth of talent and experience, are definitely a major threat,” he emphasised.
Regarding the other teams in the group—Uganda’s Cranes and Tanzania’s Taifa Stars—Akuneto stressed that there are no more pushovers in modern football.

“You cannot write off any team. With proper planning and preparation, they will be competitive as well,” he concluded.
Nigeria have won the AFCON title three times—on home soil in 1980, in Tunisia in 1994, and in South Africa in 2013.
