Stampede: Ooni’s estranged wife, Naomi, school principal denied bail

The estranged wife of the Ooni of Ife, Naomi Silekunola, and the Principal of Islamic High School, Bashorun, Ibadan, Abdullahi Fasasi, have been denied bail.

TheNewsGuru reports that the charges brought before the court by the police against the accused persons, related to conspiracy, negligent actions causing harm, and a lack of adequate security and medical facilities at the event.

It was also reported that 35 children died in the stampede, while six others were critically injured.

Justice Olawoyin, presiding over the Oyo State High Court, adjourned Naomi’s case till next week, following a plea by the Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oyo State, Prof. Oyelowo Oyewo, SAN, for more time to conclude investigations.

A source at the court who spoke with Sahara reported, “The court did not grant the bail application of Naomi and the school principal because the Attorney General pleaded that the state should be given more time to investigate.”
