Vojvodina forward Bamidele Yusuf has expressed his desire to play for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, following his impressive scoring form in the ongoing 2024/25 Serbian SuperLiga season.
In 17 appearances, the 23-year-old has scored eight goals and provided two assists, capturing the attention of fans and scouts alike, and fueling discussions about his potential call-up to Nigeria’s national team.
Speaking on his chances of breaking into the Super Eagles, Yusuf believes he will get the chance to make his mark on the international scene in no distant time.
“Of course it’s the dream of every footballer to represent their country,” Yusuf said. “If I get a call-up, I want to add my qualities to the team and help them score more goals,” he said.
Although it took Yusuf four matches to adapt to the Serbian top flight this season, he has since become a standout player. His goalscoring spree began with a brace against Radnički in August.
In November, Yusuf delivered a sensational performance at the Caizcoin Arena, scoring all four goals in Vojvodina’s 4-0 victory over Novi Pazar.
This feat made him only the second Nigerian, after Vincent Eze, to score four goals in an away match for the club.
Though Vojvodina are currently seventh in the league table, the Nigerian believes they are still within reach of their ambition to play in Europe next season just as they are making progress in the Serbian Cup.
The Nigerian also scored a brace in a 3-1 win over Grafičar, to help them zoom into the quarter-finals of the Serbian Cup in November.
He netted in the second and the 25th minute while Caleb Zady Sery added the third in the 79th minute.
He is currently in joint-third place with eight goals in the top scorers chart in the league.
Yusuf arrived at Vojvodina before the start of the season from Radnicki Nis where he spent six months, and showed quality with an impressive return of six goals and five assists in 16 matches.
Before arriving in Serbia, the Nigerian player played for Portuguese side Estoril and Spartak Trnava in Slovakia where he first plied his trade after arriving in Europe from Nigeria in 2020.
If he continues in this exceptional form, a Super Eagles debut could be imminent as Nigeria’s next match is a 2026 World Cup qualifier against Rwanda in March 2025.
