A Playboy model, Tabby Brown, who had previously dated Raheem Sterling and Mario Balotelli, tragically died days after returning home from a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) surgery, according to an inquest.
Brown had secretly traveled to the Dominican Republic for the procedure, which also involved liposuction, in October 2023, misleading her family into believing she was touring South America.
However, just three days after her return to the UK, Brown suffered a ‘fat embolism’, the court heard (as per Mirror).
The 38 year old was found collapsed at her south London home by her mother on October 13 last year.
Despite emergency services being called to the scene, she was pronounced dead at 1.30am. A subsequent post-mortem confirmed that she had recently undergone cosmetic surgery.
The South London Coroners Court was informed that the deceased had two ‘puncture wounds’ in her pelvis and ‘numerous small globules of fat’ in her lungs. It was this ‘fat embolism in her circulation’ that resulted in her death.
The model, who had featured in Playboy, Cosmopolitan, and Elle, reportedly felt unwell upon her return to the UK but refrained from seeking medical help, opting instead for painkillers, as per MailOnline.
Her devastated mother, Mahasin, believed her daughter had contracted a viral infection during her travels and cared for her when she first fell ill, reports the Mirror.
Shortly thereafter, she found Tabby on the floor, not breathing.
In a joint statement, her brother and sister paid tribute to her: “After Tabby’s surgery abroad, she returned to the family home and was cared for by our mother, who was under the impression she had picked up a viral infection whilst travelling.’Tabby did not inform her mother that she’d had surgery.
“Generally, Tabby was in good health, she was an avid fitness enthusiast and enjoyed weight training.’She was a foodie, who in recent years particularly enjoyed baking. Tabby had enjoyed a successful career as a model, having featured in music videos of several well-known British and American artists. She was also the face of many ad campaigns for recognised brands. Tabby was well known and well-liked by many personally and professionally.”
The dangers of BBL surgery—the popular buttock enlargement method—were emphasized once again, reflecting its alarming mortality rate; more than one death per 4,000 surgeries. This controversial procedure involves transferring fat to the hips and buttocks and is significantly cheaper overseas compared to costs upwards of £12,000 in the UK.
Unfortunately, it’s not an option under the NHS.
This risk materialized tragically for 26 year old Demi Agoglia from Salford. Despite being a mother of three, she ventured to Turkey for BBL surgery that disastrously fell into the hands of inadequately trained medical personnel, leading to her untimely death at an Istanbul hospital just three days post-operation.
It’s now believed that at least six British women have lost their lives to substandard surgeries in Turkey alone.
