Referee David Coote has been fired by the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) following investigations into his conduct.
The 42-year-old was suspended earlier last month after a video allegedly showing him making derogatory comments about Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp emerged.
Days later, a photo allegedly showing him sniffing white powder emerged on social media, putting his career in a precarious position.

The experienced referee was also being investigated for allegedly discussing giving a yellow card to a player in 2019, per Sky Sports. Coote has a right to appeal his dismissal.

“David Coote’s actions were found to be in serious breach of the provisions of his employment contract, with his position deemed untenable,” PGMOL said in a statement
An important aspect of the statement said they will continue offering their support to the referee.
Coote first coached in the Premier League in April 2018 and was promoted to the top level. He refereed the 2023 Carabao Cup final, and his last Premier League game was Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Aston Villa.
Coote’s betting breach
Henzodaily.ng earlier reported that The Football Association (FA) was looking into Coote for reportedly foul-mouthing former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp.
Coote is also being investigated for discussing awarding a yellow card with a friend of his which is against stipulated rules..
The dispute stems from a yellow card Coote issued to Leeds United star Ezgjan Alioski during a match against West Brom in 2019.

How Much do referees make?
Henzodaily.ng also reported that Premier League referees’ salaries have been disclosed amid enquiries against David Coote.
Referees in England’s top division reportedly earn between £73,191 and £147,258 per year.
They also receive £1,116 per game, or £837 if they are on video assistant referee (VAR) duty, and are eligible for bonuses based on their performance.
