Operatives from the Katsina State Police Command have apprehended a suspected financier of terrorism, Aminu Hassan, for allegedly providing support to armed bandits terrorizing the Danmusa Local Government Area and its surroundings.
The Command’s spokesperson, Abubakar Sadiq, made this announcement in a statement released on Tuesday.
Sadiq, who holds the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police, indicated that the 25-year-old suspect is originally from Dundubus village in the Daja Local Government Area of the state.
He emphasized that this arrest represents a significant achievement for the Command in its ongoing efforts to combat terrorism, kidnapping, and banditry within the state.
The suspect was captured during a routine patrol along the Yan-tumaki and Kankara highway on November 19th in the Danmusa LGA.
At the time of his arrest, he was found to be in possession of two pairs of military uniforms, which were discreetly hidden in a black polythene bag.
During the investigation, three additional suspects were also detained in connection with the case: (1) Lawal M Ahmad, aged 29, (2) Isma’il Dalhatu, male, aged 24, both from Basawa quarters in Sabon Gari, Zaria LGA, Kaduna, and (3) Shafi’u Adamu, male, aged 28, from Danjaba village, Soba LGA, Kaduna State.
Recovered items from the suspects include 14 pairs of military uniforms and one police uniform, which are believed to have been intended for distribution to armed bandits for their criminal activities.
The police spokesperson indicated that the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation, stating that they would soon face charges in court following the completion of the investigation.
He further mentioned that the State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Abubakar Musa, has encouraged the public to continue providing valuable information to assist in combating armed banditry in the state.
Sadiq praised the operatives for their professionalism and commitment, which resulted in the successful apprehension of all suspects involved.
In a related development, the Command apprehended seven individuals suspected of rape on November 25th after receiving reports of their illicit activities at the Kaita Divisional Police Headquarters in Katsina.
The suspects are alleged to have enticed four minors, aged between 13 and 14, into the residence of one of the suspects, where they engaged in unlawful sexual acts with them.
The suspects—Salisu Ibrahim, Sabiu Abdulkarim, Nuhu Halliru, Rabe Malam, Hamza Abdullahi, Iliyasu Ibrahim, and Idris Abdullahi—are all residents of Kaita Local Government Area in the state.
“Upon receipt of the report, detectives were detailed to investigate and succeeded in arresting the suspects.
“During investigation, the suspects confessed to the commission of the offence and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation,” the statement added.
