The Edo State Police Command has initiated an urgent investigation into the death of Mr. Kaduna Eboigbodin, the former chairman of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state, following an altercation with police officers.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner of Police, Umoru Ozigi, and made available to journalists in Benin City, the police confirmed that the incident, which led to Eboigbodin’s death, is being taken seriously.
The statement was signed by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Moses Yamu, and emphasized the police’s dedication to ensuring justice is served.
Dated December 4, 2024, the statement, titled “RE: Demanding justice for Comrade Kaduna Eboigbodin following his avoidable and untimely death due to unprofessional conduct by the Nigeria Police Force”.
The force expressed the police’s sorrow at the news of Eboigbodin’s passing. It also mentioned that the Command was deeply concerned by allegations of police misconduct in relation to his death.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Umoru P. Ozigi, wishes to use this medium to commiserate with the widow, family, friends and associates of the deceased over the loss and pray for the repose of his soul.
“He further noted the cordial working relationship existing between the Police, Civil Society Organizations, NLC and all critical stakeholders in the State and has therefore, directed the immediate investigation into the incident.
“The Command remains committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring justice prevails in every situation,” the statement read.
Ozigi reassured the public that the investigation would be thorough, reaffirming the Command’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that justice prevails in all matters.
