Police in Niger State have arrested 10 suspects for sundry offences. They include a member of a kidnap gang and another gang that robbed students of the School of Health Technology in Minna.
Police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun said the suspects were arrested in various locations in the state.
He said police operatives at A’ Division Kontangora arrested one Nasiru Isyaka of Sabon-Gari Mangu Matachibu village via Kontagora in connection with a kidnap incident that occurred in the village, where some armed men invaded the village shot a victim dead and kidnapped two others who were later rescued through a joint security effort.
The PPRO said during preliminary investigation, the suspect was arrested when he visited one of the victims in his home, and he was identified to be one of the kidnappers.
“One locally made short gun was recovered from him and he confessed to the crime. He has also been transferred to the police headquarters in Minna for an in-depth investigation and prosecution. Efforts are ongoing to arrest other members of the gang,” he added.
Similarly , he said police operatives in Maitumbi Division Minna intercepted and arrested three suspected robbers; Isah Bello , Abdulsalam Abubakar and Nasir Mohammed who burgled students’ quarters in Maitumbi, tied the students and robbed them of their valuables.
