Oyo Gov’t Inaugurates Committee For Coronation Of Alaafin

The Oyo State government on Monday inaugurated the committee for the coronation ceremony for Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, the Alaafin of Oyo.

Commissioner for Information and Orientation in the state, Prince Dotun Oyelade said the inaugural meeting was presided over by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Hon. Ademola Ojo.

Among the committee members, were four members of the Oyo State cabinet comprisinf the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Prof. Musibau Babatunde, the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun, Hon. Ademola Ojo and Prince Dotun Oyelade.

Other members were three state lawmakers from Oyo Constituency, including Hon. Gbenga Oyekola from Atiba State Constituency, Hon. Rahman Olorunpoto from Oyo East/Oyo West Constituency and Hon. Oladeji Oparinde from Afijio Constituency.

According to the Commissioner, Hon Akeem Olukitibi the chairman Oyo West local government; Hon Wahab Adetunji the chairman Atiba local government; Hon. Sola Oluokun, chairman Oyo East local government; and Hon Olufemi Aikomo, the chairman Afijio local government, seven family members of the new Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Owoade; religious leaders and other stakeholders were also in the committee.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters said arrangements have started in earnest to ensure a successful coronation in strict compliance with the tradition of Oyo people.

The Commissioner recalled that in the past five years, Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration had inaugurated 10 kings and 40 baales.

He said Governor Makinde expects everyone involved in the coronation to be diligent and show maximum support for the success of the event.
