One dead, others injured as car crash in Lagos

A yet-to-be-identified driver of a Toyota Sienna on Wednesday lost his life,  in a lone accident at Conoil, inward Secretariat, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Lagos State.

The spokesperson for the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA), Adebayo Taofiq confirmed the incident, noting that the driver was under the influence of alcohol and lost control of the vehicle due to excessive speeding.

Taofiq added that three other passengers, —two males and one female—sustained severe injuries and were rushed to the Lagos State Accident and Emergency Centre at Toll Gate for urgent medical attention.

Officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) transported the deceased’s remains to a morgue in Yaba.

He further disclosed that during the rescue operation, LASTMA officials recovered N48,200, a phone, and 15 sachets of alcoholic gin from the vehicle.

“Preliminary inquiries indicate that the deceased driver was under the influence of alcohol and lost control of the vehicle while traveling at an excessive speed.

“During rescue operations, LASTMA officials who swiftly responded as first responder recovered N48,200, phone and 15 sachets of alcoholic gin inside the Sienna car,”

Adebayo said in a statement.
