The Ogun State Government has assured fish farmers in the state of continuous support in improving their productivity, reducing cost of production and enhancing food sufficiency.
The Commissioner for Agriculture and Food Security, Bolu Owotomo gave the assurance on Friday, during his visit to Mojalake Fish Farm, in Ijebu East Local Government Area of the state.
Owotomo said the support would equally improve the livelihood of farmers across the state.
He said that government through the Ogun State Economic Transformation Project (OGSTEP) had been assisting registered fish farmers by providing them with subsidised fish feeds to reduce cost of production.
According to him, we are ensuring that smallholder farmers through OGSTEP benefit from government in terms of input and fish farmers were given 30 percent discount on their fish feeds.
In his remarks, the Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture, Waliu Owode, emphasised the need for farmers to take advantage of the various intervention programmes put in place by government to improve their lot.
Speaking on behalf of the fish farmers, the Vice Chairman, Mojalake Fish Farm, Alhaji Razak Kehinde, commended the state government for extending the subsidised fish feed programme to their farm.
He appealed for more support in the areas of equipment, accessible road, drainage system, security, among others.
