Rivers United head coach Finidi George has reflected on his team’s victory over Kwara United.
The Port Harcourt club laboured to a 2-1 victory over visitors at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, Port Harcourt on Sunday.
The Pride of Rivers trailed at the break courtesy of Akani Akeem’s first-half header but produced a stirring second-half display to turn the game on its head.
Timothy Zachariah drew the hosts level just seven minutes after the restart, finishing clinically inside the box after Handsome Surveyor’s overhead kick was blocked.
Zachariah was also instrumental in the match-winning goal, delivering an intelligent solo run and cross that substitute David Benjamin tapped in at the far post to send the home fans into raptures.
“It’s been a long time we scored two goals doing it in the game against Kwara United is good for the team,”Finidi stated in a post-match interview.
“I told them it is going to be a difficult game because last season Rivers United didn’t win so unfortunately we conceded and we had to fight back which propelled us to make two quick changes to get the win.
“We have to commend the players for the win.”
