NPFL Fines Ikorodu City N3m For Match Security Breach

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has slammed the fine of N3million on Ikorodu City for the security breach in their last weekend’s home clash against Remo Stars at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena which ended in a 1-1 draw.

The league body, in a statement released on Tuesday by the Chief Operating Officer, Mr Davidson Owumi, ruled that the Lagos based breached its Rule B13.52 of the Frameworks and Rules by failing to provide adequate security during the South West derby clash.

NPFL ruled that Ikorodu City breached Rule B13.52 of its Frameworks and Rules in the match by failing to provide adequate and effective security “which resulted in unauthorised persons gaining access to restricted areas and the assault of the Remo Stars Coach, Mr. Sulaimon Kamil.”

It added that the Ikorodu team also breached its Rule B13.18 by allowing unauthorised persons to encroach into the field of play

Also, the club was accused of violating Rule C9 of the Frameworks and Rules of the Nigeria Premier Football League for its failure to ensure proper conduct of the team and supporters, resulting in the assault Mr. Kamil.

Consequently, the NPFL imposed the fine of N1 million each for failure to provide adequate and effective security, encroachment into the field of play its failure to ensure proper conduct of the team and supporters.

NPFL board also ordered the club to play their next two home matches behind close door and order it to identify and prosecute the perpetrators in the assault on Remo Stars Coach, Mr. Kamil.

“Should you submit to the summary jurisdiction and the prescribed sanctions, kindly note that the fines therein are to be paid within seven (7) working days.

“Note that in accordance with Rule El, where an appeal or election to be dealt with by a disciplinary panel fails or is found to have been frivolous, such party may be liable to such additional sanction(s) as may be deemed fit in the circumstances,” the NPFL noted.
