Ikorodu City head coach, Nurudeen Aweroro, has attributed their 1-1 draw against Remo Stars in Sunday’s Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) to loss of “concentration.”
Aweroro’s men conceded early in their first-ever Southwest Derby with Remo Stars when a quick throw-in from Ibrahim ‘Babawo’ Abubakar freed Ibrahim Shuaibu in the box to score on eight minutes for Remo Stars to lead.
The lead lasted for 82 minutes before Chineme Chinonso levelled the score for Ikorodu City.
Aweroro has now taken time to explain his side’s performance in the game.

He admitted that the match against Remo Stars has opened his eyes to the fact that there is still so much to be done on his team so as to keep their top-flight status.
“In the game of football, a coach must expect to win, draw or lose. It didn’t work out as planned for us but I still believe we did our best. This game has made me to understand that we still need to work harder if we want to remain in the league next season.
“The major problem we had in the game was losing concentration. We lost concentration and paid for it. We were supposed to concentrate from the beginning of the game to the end against a team like this. Losing our concentration against a team like this became a big problem for us and we paid for it.
“I feel happy that we came back into the game though late and at least taking a point is better than nothing. Overall I am happy with the general play and move of my players which helped in getting that goal though we lost a lot of scoring chances as well,” Aweroro said.
The City coach is now focused on preparing his side for their next game at Abia Warriors and revealed they will work on their weaknesses ahead of the trip to Umuahia.
“So we will be doing a lot of corrections before going for our next game,” said the Ikorodu City coach.
