The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has detained 90 foreign nationals in Rivers State for their alleged involvement in cybercrime.
Henzodaily reports that the NIS Comptroller in Rivers, Y.I. Abdulmajeed, disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday, highlighting that the arrests were carried out in collaboration with other security agencies.
According to Abdulmajeed, intelligence reports led officers to the locations where the suspects were allegedly operating.
“The Rivers State Command of the Nigeria Immigration Service has arrested 90 illegal immigrants for cybercrimes committed to defrauding innocent Nigerians.
“The suspects were apprehended following credible intelligence, in partnership with other security agencies,” he stated.
He further revealed that the operation uncovered 94 individuals, of whom 85 were Cameroonians, five were Chadians, and four were Nigerians.
The group, comprising 74 men and 20 women, reportedly entered Nigeria through unauthorized routes and lacked valid travel or residency documents.
Additionally, two Nigerians accused of providing shelter to the suspects were arrested during the operation.
Abdulmajeed also noted that the NIS Comptroller-General, Kemi Nandap, has directed an immediate and thorough investigation into the matter.
