According to The Athletic, Mikel Arteta’s side looked to add a striker and even pondered the idea of loaning Spain captain Morata until the end of the current campaign.
The 32-year-old joined AC Milan last summer, but has only played a fringe role for the Serie A giants, tallying just five league goals in 16 games.
The Spaniard instead sealed a move to Turkish Super Lig champions Galatasaray.
Kai Havertz is now the only fit, recognized center forward in the team after Arsenal decided not to sign another striker.
Belgium international Leandro Trossard can also play in that position.
