Talks between Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) and Nuno Mendes had looked to be heading towards an agreement.
Both parties had been locked in negotiations for several months and were nearing an end, however, RMC Sport (Get French Football) understands that talks have now reached a dead-end amid significant interest from Manchester United.
Having hired Ruben Amorim, Manchester United have switched to a back-three system.
It means that the Premier League side will be looking to deploy wing-backs but Amorim’s current options are limited.
RMC Sport understands that United have submitted an offer for Mendes and are pushing for the player to make the move to Old Trafford. Other clubs are expected to join the race.
Mendes is not indifferent to the Red Devils’ attempts to bring him to the club and, as things stand, the left-back wants to leave PSG.
The French giants, however, have not given up hope of extending the Portugal international’s contract and are opposed to his departure this January.
