Key Resolutions From South-West Governors’ Meeting Emerge

The South-West Governors’ Forum, led by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has resolved to create a special security outfit aimed at tackling banditry and other criminal activities across the region.

In addition to bolstering security, they have agreed to set up joint food hubs to address rising food inflation and ensure regional food security.

Following a closed-door meeting at the Lagos House, Ikeja, on Thursday, Governor Sanwo-Olu disclosed the decisions reached in a communique.

The meeting, which lasted four hours, had in attendance Governors Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Dapo Abiodun (Ogun), Lucky Aiyedatiwa (Ondo), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Biodun Oyebanji (Ekiti), and the host, Sanwo-Olu.

The South-West Governors’ Forum, chaired by Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his efforts in stabilizing the economy, exchange rate, and petrol prices.

Discussions centered on key regional concerns, including security, agriculture, food security, economic collaboration, and the establishment of the Southwest Development Commission.

This meeting builds on a similar gathering on June 10, 2024, in Lagos, where Sanwo-Olu was unanimously chosen as Chairman of the Forum.

Since then, the forum has been focused on implementing policies that enhance regional development in the Southwest.
