Katsina To Empower Farmers, Women With 4,000 Power Tillers, 48,000 Goats

The Katsina State Government has announced plans to distribute over 4,000 power tillers to farmers across the state as part of a comprehensive grassroots empowerment initiative.

The initiative, spearheaded by the state governor, Dikko Umar Radda aims to boost agricultural productivity and support irrigation farming.

According to the Coordinator of the Community Level Committee (CLC), Dr Kamualadee Kabir, the power tillers will be subsidised by 60 to 70 percent to make them affordable for farmers.

In addition to the tillers, water pumping machines will also be distributed to enhance irrigation farming and improve crop yields.

Also 48,000 goats will be shared to women across the state as part of the initiative, with each ward receiving ten goats to improve livelihoods and promote economic sustainability for women.

Dr. Kabir urged local leaders to carefully select beneficiaries to ensure the programme reaches the intended beneficiaries.

As part of the initiative, every ward will open a dedicated account to manage funds and resources, with key signatories such as ward secretaries or other designated officials.

Kabir emphasised that the programme is non-political and is solely focused on benefiting communities.

While inaugurating the CLC in Funtua, representative of Governor Radda, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Bishir Tanimu, commended the initiative and expressed gratitude to citizens for their support for the administration.

He highlighted the importance of involving leaders from all 361 wards to implement projects that directly benefit local communities.

Tanimu also encouraged committee members to show commitment and accountability, citing Quranic teachings to inspire dedication to the programme’s success.

He added that the government’s plan to repair television centres in local government areas and wards, along with these agricultural and livestock initiatives, underscores its commitment to grassroots development and improving the lives of its citizens.
