Ike, Alozie, Edema Headlines Africa’s Contingent

Three of Nigeria’s most promising young basketball talents – David Ugonna Ike, Ikenna Alozie, and Theophilus Edema – have been selected as part of a group of eight African players to participate in the prestigious Basketball Without Borders (BWB) Global Camp, set to take place alongside the NBA All-Star Weekend 2025 in San Francisco, California.

The Nigerian trio will be among eight African representatives at the elite camp, which is organised by the NBA and FIBA to identify and develop high-school-age basketball prospects from across the globe. The BWB Global Camp provides a platform for top young players to receive world-class coaching, skill development, and mentorship from current and former NBA and WNBA stars.

David Ugonna Ike’s selection comes on the back of an impressive 2024 season, during which he made his Basketball Africa League (BAL) debut through the BAL Elevate program. The rising star, who averaged 14 minutes per game, recorded 4.5 points and 4.2 rebounds per match. His defensive prowess earned him the Defensive Most Valuable Player award and a place in the BWB Africa 2024 All-Star team during the camp in Johannesburg last August.

Ikenna Alozie and Theophilus Edema also carry Nigeria’s hopes into the prestigious event. While Alozie has been making waves with his exceptional versatility and high basketball IQ, Edema is known for his athleticism and defensive acumen, making him a formidable force on the court. Both players will be looking to showcase their skills in front of top scouts and coaches, with aspirations of securing future opportunities at the professional and collegiate levels.

For Ike, Alozie and Edema, the camp represents a golden opportunity to take the next step in their burgeoning careers and further cement Nigeria’s reputation as a powerhouse of basketball talent in Africa.

Alongside the Nigerian trio, the African contingent for the 2025 BWB Global Camp includes Heri Bukinga (Democratic Republic of the Congo), Arafan Diane (Guinea), Ali Assran (Egypt), Paul Ater Maker Bol (South Sudan), and Ahmed Bedoui (Tunisia). Each of these players has distinguished themselves through their performances in local and international competitions, earning a place among the best young prospects on the continent.

Another notable participant is Ali Assran (Egypt), who features in Season 2 of Born and Bred, a documentary series highlighting top African basketball prospects.

Assran, a 16-year-old forward, has represented Egypt at the U16 & U17 National Teams and is set to graduate from NBA Academy Africa this year.

From Tunisia, Ahmed Bedoui has also made an impression, representing his country’s U17 National Team and making his BAL debut

The BWB Global Camp has a strong track record of producing NBA and international basketball stars, and the 2025 edition promises to be another pivotal moment for these rising talents
