Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Ibrahim Gusau, has explained steps the football house is taking to help the Super Falcons become African champions again.
The Falcons have the chance to reclaim the title when the tournament kicks off in Morocco on 5-26 July.
Drawn in Group B, the Falcons will face Tunisia, Algeria and Botswana.
In an interview on NFF TV, Gusau highlighted steps that would be taken to make sure the Falcons become champions again.
“My projection is that we are going to get back out trophy because as far as I’m concerned that trophy belong to Nigeria and that’s why we are not taking any chances,” Gusau said. “Every single FIFA window we will give them the opportunity to have quality friendly match.
“Before the WAFCON I think we have about two windows which we intend to make sure that we utilise them effectively to make sure they have good preparation.
“As I’ve said we are trying to see how we can inject young girls from our local league which we feel are going to bring a lot of positive impact into the team. That’s why we had the friendly match with Algeria in Lagos and Ikenne which helped us to get some of these girls and inject them with the foreign-based which gave us the result we had against France (2-1 defeat to France in friendly game) because about seven of the home girls were injected into the Super Falcons and we were able to get the result.”
The NFF president said everything will be done to make sure there would not be too must reliance on foreign players.
He added:”We are not going to relent, we will still try and make sure that we do what we need to do to ensure that we don’t rely on only the foreign players.”
