The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Delta Command, has advised motorists against excessive speeding during and after the yuletide celebration to minimise crashes.
Mr Frederick Ogidan, the Sector Commander, gave the advice on Wednesday during a mega rally to sensitise drivers at the Agbogidi Park.
Ogidan was represented by Mr Briggs Millah, Head of Administration and Human Resources, FRSC Asaba.
According to him, motorists, especially drivers, need to understand proper road usage to save lives.
He said, “Our aim is to save lives by reducing the level of crashes on the roads, because that is mostly felt during ember months”.
Ogidan urged motorists to adhere to the rules and regulations guiding road traffic, to ensure safety.
He also advised drivers not to overload their vehicles, to maintain good tyres and other parts needed for the vehicle to function properly.
Ogidan implored motorists to be more safety conscious during the period, as the volume of traffic would increase, adding that only the living can celebrate.
“Motorists should check their vehicle tyres, ensure that their wipers are effective, even the head lights should be functioning well.
“Obey traffic rules and regulations to prevent unnecessary loss of lives. Do not drive when drunk. Avoid wrongful overtaking to reduce mishaps during the period and beyond.
“Many lives will be saved if motorists can adhere strictly to traffic rules and regulations,” he said.
