The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau has praised the level of officiating in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) this season.
Gusau in a chat with the NFF media stated that the soccer house has done a great job in improving their welfare of the referees.
“When we came on board, we must do what is right to improve the quality of our domestic league that is why during the first year, we tried to put things right,” Gusau declared.
“Then we decided on an abridge league. We took time to ensure that all barriers that will give us problems in the area of organising a proper league are removed.
“Before we came on board, the referees were complaining about their payment . We did our best to resolve that.

“In the areas of training, we did our best too.The referees are the the judges that will give you the results. No matter how good the teams are, no matter the hard work you put in place, if the referees are not ready to do the right thing, you end up being frustrated.
“We tried to give them the right training and ensure that we inject young blood and referees for this season. This season, we have about 12 referees that are below the age of 30 that we have introduced to the Nigeria Premier Football League.
“From the report, I’m receiving from this committee, the young referees have done a good job which they are proud off. Till now, we have not received any complaints about this young referees.
“I deliberately said we should give these young referees opportunity to improve officiating in the league. When you announced the list of referees appointed to officiate tournaments, you start looking at it until you get to the last name without seeing any Nigerian.
“Now the CHAN list is out, we have only one Nigerian. I’m confident things will improve with time. Teams can now travel and pick points.
