Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has signed into law the 2025 Appropriation Bill amounting to ₦719.7 billion, pledging accelerated infrastructural development, social empowerment, and poverty alleviation in the coming year.
The bill, signed at the Government House on Tuesday, earmarks N262.7 billion (36%) for recurrent expenditure and N457.8 billion (64%) for capital projects, underscoring the administration’s focus on economic growth and developmental initiatives.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fully implementing the budget, which he described as the “Budget of Hope, Human Capital and Economic Development.”
“We are determined to stimulate economic growth, provide quality education, and improve healthcare services across the state,” the governor stated. “Let me assure the good people of Kano of our unwavering commitment to enhancing the lives of our citizens through investment generation, infrastructural development, and poverty alleviation programmes.”
Governor Yusuf further highlighted the government’s intention to channel substantial resources into social welfare and empowerment initiatives to address poverty.
“Our government is also committed to delivering quality healthcare services, driving agricultural growth, and expanding social welfare. This budget is designed to build a prosperous and inclusive Kano for all,” he added.
The Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Jibrin Ismail Falgore, who submitted the passed bill for assent, acknowledged the upward adjustment of over N170 billion from the initial N549.1 billion proposed by the governor on November 8, 2024. He explained that the increase was necessitated by public hearings and the need to incorporate additional critical projects.
We carefully considered the inputs of our constituents during the public hearing process. This budget reflects the aspirations and developmental needs of the people of Kano,” Falgore remarked.
He urged the state government to ensure the full implementation of the budget to meet public expectations.
The signing ceremony was attended by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdulsalam, key members of the State House of Assembly, and senior officials of the state executive council.
Sanusi Bature Dawakin-Tofa, the governor’s spokesperson, emphasized that the administration is focused on creating an enabling environment for economic development and sustainable growth in 2025.
The 2025 budget is a roadmap for social and economic transformation, and we are confident it will drive Kano forward,” Dawakin-Tofa said.
