Ex-Rivers Council Chair Speaks On Claims That Wike Deducts ₦20 Million From LG Allocations

Former Chairman of Ahoada West Local Government Area, Hope Ikiriko, has denied allegations that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, during his time as Governor of Rivers State, imposed a monthly deduction of ₦20 million from local council allocations.

Ikiriko expressed his views at an appreciation event hosted by former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Chibudom Nwuche, in Ochigba Town, Ahoada East Local Government Area.

The gathering was organized to recognize the contributions of leaders from both the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in support of the FCT Minister.

The former council chairman refuted claims made in a viral video by Victor Odili, a former Chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area, which suggested that Wike required signed letters to authorize deductions from local government allocations.

Ikiriko said, “The former Chairman of ONELGA, Victor Odili, claimed the former governor asked us to submit the letterheaded paper and sign the authorisation for ₦20 million deductions from our allocations monthly. That is a blatant lie. Nothing of such happened.”

He urged political leaders and supporters to avoid engaging in baseless accusations, adding, “Whatever you are seeing today will fizzle out. Let us not insult elders or engage in unnecessary controversies.”

Ikiriko praised Nwuche for promoting harmony among members of the PDP and APC in the region. He characterized the welcome extended to Wike during his visit on December 26 as unparalleled.

“What we witnessed the other day was historic. You (Nwuche) have demonstrated that goodwill extends beyond being in government. It’s clear that those who stood with Wike through the political crisis in the state are now reaping the rewards,” he said.

Earlier, Nwuche appreciated the leaders of both parties for their commitment, particularly during the recent PDP thanksgiving in Ahoada West and Ahoada East.

“You have shown extraordinary courage by staying steadfast despite challenges. Many people would have relaxed after leaving the government, but your dedication is commendable.

“Let us remain steadfast and stand by our leader, the Minister of FCT. Justice will prevail, and your unwavering support will not go unnoticed,” Nwuche added.
