Stanley Eguma – the new Enyimba Technical Adviser – is set to wield the big stick at the club after identifying the People’s Elephant’s attack as the biggest weakness of the nine-time NPFL title winners and back-to-back CAF Champions League champions in 2003 and 2004, Completesports.com reports.
Eguma, a former Rivers United coach, spoke after his side were held to a disappointing goalless draw by Bendel Insurance in a rescheduled matchday 19 fixture in Aba on Tuesday evening.Eguma directs affairs during Enyimba training session
Enyimba were abysmally wasteful during the match, repeatedly making poor decisions in the final third. The People’s squandered three golden opportunities in the first half, most of them in one-on-one situations.

The pattern continued in the second half, where they controlled almost 90% of the game but lacked the cutting edge to convert their dominance into goals.
Caught between emotion and reality, Eguma, who replaced Yemi Olanrewaju just 48 hours earlier, pinpointed the team’s blunt attack as their biggest issue and hinted at significant changes during the transfer window.
“I’ve only been with the club for about 48 hours, and from what I’ve observed, it’s clear the attack is the biggest headache and problem of the team,” Eguma stated.
“Thankfully, this is the last match of the first round. We’ll have to utilise the transfer window to bring in quality and clinical finishers to strengthen the attack.
“The team plays as a unit, but they need better tactical attacking qualities to ensure we score goals consistently. Without goals, you can’t win games. This principle will also apply to other areas where we are lacking.”
Eguma acknowledged that Enyimba’s players are young and adaptable, which he believes is an advantage for implementing tactical adjustments.

“The players are young and can adapt to instructions. It now depends on my approach and philosophy,” he explained.
“I’m not here to change the entire team, but I’ll address the grey areas. We need an attack-minded team capable of scoring goals because without goals, you can’t win.”
The former Nigeria U23 Assistant Coach described his reception by the Enyimba players as “wonderful” and noted their eagerness to work under him.
“They were all happy and willing to work. We’ve agreed to operate as a team and as a family,” he added.
Enyimba currently sit ninth on the table with 24 points from 16 matches, but they have three games in hand.
