Eguma Laments Enyimba’s ‘Unfortunate’ Defeat At Kano Pillars

Enyimba of Aba Technical Adviser, Stanley Eguma, has described the People’s Elephant’s 2-0 defeat to Kano Pillars in Thursday’s rescheduled NPFL Matchday 14 fixture at the Sani Abacha Stadium, Kano, as “unfortunate,” Completesports.com reports.

A brace from Abba Oscar in the 28th and 81st minutes condemned the nine-time Nigerian champions to their third defeat of the 2024/25 NPFL season.

The loss marked Enyimba’s first league defeat under Eguma, who took over the managerial reins earlier in the campaign. Reflecting on the result, the former Rivers United manager labelled it a bitter setback.

“It’s unfortunate that we lost the game. I think we really need to improve our game and step up,” Eguma admitted candidly.

“What I saw here today is not encouraging at all,” the tactician, nicknamed ‘Capelo,’ added. “I believe that with the little time I now have to work with the team, we’ll get better. Yes, we must.

“If we address the areas of weakness I noticed today, we’ll improve significantly before the second stanza of the league resumes.”

When asked if he feels the team is on the right track despite their struggles, Eguma expressed dissatisfaction with Enyimba’s position on the league table but remained committed to turning the situation around.

“Honestly, we’re not happy with our current position, but you’ve to understand that I just joined the team. I’m working hard to ensure that things improve,” Eguma emphasised.

“The players are still adjusting to my philosophy and tactics. They’re not bad, but there are areas where we need to fine-tune and improve so we can achieve better results.”
