D’Tigers Defeat Cape Verde, Secure 2025 AfroBasket Qualification Ticket

Nigeria’s D’Tigers beat Cape Verde 77-62 in their final Group B game at the second window of the FIBA AfroBasket qualifying tournament in Tripoli, Libya on Sunday.

The result means the D’Tigers have booked their spot at the 2025 AfroBasket tournament in Angola.

It is D’Tigers’ third win in the group after overcoming Libya and Uganda in their opening two fixtures.

They finish top in the group on nine points after three games while Cape Verde are second.

Other teams who have already qualified for this year’s edition are DR Congo, Senegal, Cameroon, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, Tunisia, South Sudan, Madagascar, Mali, Guinea and Rwanda.

This will be D’Tigers’ 20th appearance at the FIBA AfroBasket.

They won their first and only continental title in 2015, have finished as runners-up four times (1997, 1999, 2003, 2017) and third-placed three times (1995, 2005, 2011).

The 2025 AfroBasket will hold from 12-24 August in Angola.
