Chelle Needs Right Environment To Succeed As Eag

Former sub-committee member of the Nigeria Football Federation, Barrister Christopher Green, has called on the NFF to provide a suitable environment for new Super Eagles coach Eric Sékou Chelle to succeed.

Chelle’s appointment takes immediate effect, with his primary task being to secure Nigeria’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. The next round of qualifiers (Matchdays 5 and 6) is scheduled for March 2025.

Chelle, a former Malian international who earned five caps for the Aiglons of Mali, led Mali to an impressive run at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, narrowly missing out on a semi-final spot.

However, reacting to his appointment, Green, in a chat with Brila FM, stated that the NFF must provide a better environment for Chelle to thrive.

“Since he has been announced, I hope the NFF has also done their work well by providing a better environment for the new coach to thrive and qualify Nigeria for the 2026 World Cup.

“We have the talents, but again, I don’t know what the attitude of our players is now and, at the same time, what mentality they have at the moment, whether they are hungry for the World Cup, to soar higher for the country, or just hungry to succeed for the club alone.

“Also, the suitability of the coach to the Super Eagles, because all of these must be put in place before we say we are on the right track.”
