Political tension escalated in Malumfashi local government area of Katsina State as 11 out of 12 councillors voted to impeach the Chairman of the council, Maharazu Dayi, barely two days before LG elections.
Citing allegations of misconduct and poor governance, the councillors acted in what many perceived as a last-minute political showdown with the chairman.
Reliable sources within the council alleged that the chairman was removed over disagreement in the distribution of the council’s Paris Club funds.
The impeachment has sent shock waves in the LGA, especially since the impeached chairman is among those who failed to get the ticket of the All Progressive Congress (APC) to contest in the forthcoming poll.
Recall that Dayi was recently attacked by suspected hoodlums in his residence, resulting in the death of his personal security aide.
