Italian tactician Carlo Ancelotti has reportedly decided to end his role as Real Madrid’s head coach at the end of this season despite holding a contract that runs until 2026.
Carlo Ancelotti, who has achieved significant success during his second tenure at the club, has chosen to transition to a new chapter, even if this season results in multiple titles, and the club expresses a desire for him to remain.
According to Radioestadio Noche on Onda Cero, Ancelotti is resolute about moving on next summer.
His contract renewal in December 2023 came amid discussions regarding a potential managerial position with the Brazilian national team and has further solidified his impressive legacy at Real Madrid.
During his time at the helm, the club has won two La Liga titles, two UEFA Champions League trophies, a Copa del Rey, multiple Super Cups of Spain and Europe, as well as a FIFA Club World Cup. This includes the historic achievement of guiding Real Madrid to their long-awaited “La Décima” Champions League title in Lisbon during his first stint.
The news of his renewal in late 2023 took many by surprise, as there was speculation about the conclusion of his era, especially with the Brazilian Football Federation actively pursuing him and postponing their coaching decision in hopes of securing his services.
Despite the successful contract renewal and the accomplishment of a historic double in June 2024, Ancelotti remains committed to his decision to step away from Madrid.
Sources close to the coach shared, “Ancelotti is aware that continuing beyond each season, despite having a valid contract, does not solely depend on him. Nevertheless, he has decided to leave at the end of the current season, even if titles are won and the club insists he stays.”
