BREAKING: Many children feared dead at Ooni’s estranged wife’s carnival in Oyo


Several children have reportedly lost their lives, with others injured following a stampede at the event organized by Queen Naomi Silekunola, former wife of the Ooni of Ife Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi in Ibadan, Oyo State on Wednesday.

The incident, which took place in the early hours of Friday, led to the loss of several lives, most of whom were children, while others sustained injuries.

According to reports, the queen’s foundation, Women in Need of Guidance and Support (WINGS) came to an abrupt end after the tragic loss of lives at a children’s carnival.

The BBC reported that a policeman confirmed that at least three children were dead and had to be rushed to University of Ibadan College Hospital (UCH) .

In response to the tragedy, the Oyo State Government in a statement disclosed that it swiftly mobilized a Rapid Response Team to provide immediate assistance. Victims were promptly transported to various hospitals in Ibadan for medical care.

Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, also acknowledged the efforts of Dr. Oluwaserimi Ajetunmobi, the Commissioner for Health, who activated all available response teams to assist at the scene.

He emphasized that the state government is committed to supporting the victims and their families during this difficult period.

The statement clarified that the Oyo State Government was not involved in the planning of the event, nor was the Ministry of Health asked to provide logistical support for the private children’s funfair.

The government stressed the importance of proper coordination and safety measures when organizing large-scale events, particularly those involving children and the elderly.

Prince Oyelade mentioned that the state is awaiting a detailed report from the Commissioner of Police to determine the total number of victims affected by the incident.

Parents concerned about the whereabouts of their children are urged to visit the following medical facilities in Ibadan, where affected children are being treated: Patnas Hospital, Basorun; Western Hospital, Basorun; Ringroad State Hospital; Molly Specialist Hospital; and University College Hospital, UCH. A valid means of identification will be required for identification purposes.
