London, United Kingdom – Beatrice, wife of former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, has been released from prison in the United Kingdom.
The wife of the former federal lawmaker has returned to Nigeria.

According to Vanguard, a reliable source confirmed Ekweremadu’s wife’s return to Nigeria on Tuesday, January 21.
Ekweremadu represented Enugu West Senatorial district from 3 June 2003 to 5 May 2023 in the National Assembly.
A court in the United Kingdom sentenced Senator Ekweremadu, his wife, and Dr. Obinna Obeta over charges related to organ harvesting in March 2023.

Ekweremadu received a 10-year prison sentence, while his wife was sentenced to six years over charges related to organ harvesting.
It was gathered that she is currently in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja after she returned to Nigeria.
As reported by Vanguard, Ekweremadu’s wife’s family house is experiencing serious jubilation in the Mpu community of Aninri local government area of Enugu state.
A former aide to Ekweremadu, who asked not to be named also confirmed the development, Premium Times reports.
“Yes. She’s released now. She is currently in Nigeria.”
The aide said he couldn’t explain the reason she was released and allowed to return to Nigeria before completing her jail term in the European country.
“I don’t have that information. But she’s out means she’s out finally. She will not go back to the UK.”
Ekweremadu’s ordeal in the UK
Senator Ike Ekweremadu, 60, and his wife Beatrice, 56, wanted a new kidney for their 25-year-old daughter Sonia, the Old Bailey heard.

The pair and 50-year-old Dr Obeta were previously convicted of conspiring to exploit the man. The case is reportedly the first under modern slavery laws.
Their victim, a street trader in Lagos, was brought to the UK to provide a kidney for the Ekweremadus’ daughter.
He fled in fear for his life and walked into a police station exactly a year ago to report what had happened after the Royal Free Hospital called a halt to the private £80,000 procedure.
King Charles III told to intervene in Ekweremadu’s case
Henzodaily.ng reported that Kayode Ajulo, a Nigerian lawyer, wrote to the new British monarch, King Charles III, to consider the royal prerogative of mercy concerning Senator Ekweremadu’s matter.
Reactions continue to trail the conviction of Ekweremadu for organ trafficking in the United Kingdom (UK).
Speaking on the royal prerogative of mercy, Ajulo said that a precedent had been set as far back as 1717 when King George did the same; also, in 2003 and 2021.
