As part of activities marking the 2024 International Day for Persons with Disabilities, persons living with disabilities in Bauchi have stressed the need to prioritize free education and promote inclusive leadership opportunities at all levels.
They made the plea during an advocacy visit to the Government House, Bauchi.
The celebration aims to highlight the importance of empowering persons with disabilities and fostering an environment of equality and inclusivity.
Speaking on behalf of the association, the state chairman, Iliya Ismail, called on the government to enhance access to education and ensure the active participation of persons with disabilities in leadership roles.
He underscored a collective effort to build a society where everyone, regardless of ability, has equal access to opportunities for growth and development.
Receiving the delegation on behalf of Governor Bala Mohammed, the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Ibrahim Kashim, reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to improving the welfare of persons with disabilities.
Governor Mohammed assured the group that their requests would be carefully considered.
The theme for this year’s International Day for Persons with Disabilities is “Amplifying the Leadership of Persons with Disabilities for an Inclusive and Sustainable Future.”
