Amusan Beats World Champion Williams At Maiden Jamaica Athletics Invitational

Nigeria’s Tobi Amusan ran a world leading 12.40 seconds to win the 100m hurdles at the maiden Jamaica Athletics Invitational on Saturday.

Amusan has now taken over the world lead from American Tonea Marshall who had run 12.42 seconds in late April.

The world record holder and 2022 World Champion took over the race at the eighth hurdle and got to the finish line ahead of World Champion Danielle Williams.

Williams ran a season’s best 12.46 seconds, while American Christina Clemons was third with 12.54 seconds.

Amusan will hope to maintain her impressive form when the Olympics kicks off in Paris.

Meanwhile, American World Leader Daniel Roberts won the 110m hurdles with 13.17 seconds at the Jamaica invitational.

He beat compatriot Eric Edwards, who was second in 13.33 seconds, and Lafranz Campbell of Jamaica who was third with 13.37 seconds.

The Jamaica Athletics Invitational is a Continental Tour- Silver meet.
