Mika Lonnstrom, the Finnish Head Coach of Lobi Stars, a Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side, has described Daniel Amokachi as the “best player he’s ever seen and worked with”, Completesports.com reports.
Lonnstrom made the remark after Lobi Stars secured a crucial 1-0 win over Plateau United in a Matchday 17 fixture at the Lafia City Stadium on Saturday. The victory was a significant boost for the struggling Makurdi-based team.
Addressing the media after the game, Lonnstrom spoke in place of former Super Eagles captain and the club’s Technical Adviser, Daniel ‘Da Bull’ Amokachi.

“From day one, I’ve been happy here. I have to thank Daniel Amokachi, one of the best players I’ve ever seen and worked with,” Lonnstrom said.
“He’s a real professional and a legend. Every day when we train, it feels like working at a top club anywhere in the world.”
Praising the team’s efforts, he added:
“The players have been working hard with commitment and dedication, even though we’ve not been getting enough points. They’re adapting well, and Daniel has been doing excellent work, making things easier for me and the rest of the staff.
“This week, we focused a lot on set pieces. While we didn’t score as many goals as we hoped, we’re happy with the progress. I must also thank the board and chairman, Philip Nongu, for their unwavering support.”

“In every match where we’ve earned points, it’s been the same recipe – the whole team defends very well. Of course, there are spaces, but that’s expected. Overall, the first half against Plateau United was solid, and we’re happy to get the three points.”
Looking ahead, the Finnish coach is optimistic about Lobi Stars’ growth and their ability to rise from the relegation zone.
“Our players are developing all the time. We have young talents who play with heart and pride for the Lobi Stars badge. They also have ambitions to progress, which aligns with our plan and focus.”
The 1-0 win lifted Lobi Stars to 15th position on the NPFL table with 19 points, while Plateau United dropped to 16th with 18 points after 17 matches.
