The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) has reinstated Mamman Mike Osuman (SAN) as the Chairman of its National Executive Committee (NEC).
This decision was announced on Wednesday by the forum’s Secretary-General, Malam Murtala Aliyu, through a press release that he personally signed and made available to newsmen.
Henzodaily had earlier reported that Osuman’s suspension would be lifted today.
“That the ACF Unity, Peace and Reconciliation Committee under the chairmanship of Dr Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, CFR, Ajiyan Katagum has intervened in the recent leadership crisis in ACF.
“It had invited some stakeholders, including the Chairman of the Board of Trustees and that of the National Executive Council, among others, and has had a family discussion on the unfortunate development.
“Consequently, the issue has been amicably resolved in the interest of the great people of Arewa, and the suspension is hereby withdrawn,” Daily Trust quoted Aliyu saying in a statement.
Henzodaily reports that Osuman’s suspension arose from remarks he reportedly made, which were criticized by certain members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) and the National Executive Committee (NEC) for straying from the organization’s commitment to non-partisanship.
In a statement co-signed by ACF Secretary General Malam Murtala Aliyu and BoT Chairman Alhaji Bashir Dalhatu, Osuman faced allegations of making unauthorized comments implying that the North would support a northern presidential candidate in the upcoming 2027 elections.
However, insiders informed Weekend Trust, a sister publication of Daily Trust, that the leadership turmoil represents the culmination of longstanding issues within the premier socio-cultural organization representing northern Nigeria.
These sources indicated that the challenges primarily arise from personal conflicts and power struggles between the suspended NEC chairman and the BoT chairman. Additionally, the political landscape for 2027, along with structural and constitutional matters within the forum, were also highlighted.
