An early morning fire outbreak at Rangaza community in Ungogo local government area has claimed the lives of a couple in Kano State.
The couple identified as a 67-year-old Muhammad Uba and his wife, Fatima Muhammad, 52, were said to be trapped by the smoke of fire that engulfed their apartment during the incident.
Spokesperson of the Kano State Fire Service, Yusif Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday, explaining that the incident happened around 1:45a.m. on Friday.
Abdullahi said the Service received an emergency call for assistance from one of its staff, Ahmed Abubakar, who informed the Control Room about the incident at Rangaza (Inken) Layin AU, in the area.
“Crew on duty from Bompai Fire Station were mobilised to the place and arrived at the scene at about 01:51am; on arrival, they successfully controlled the fire that completely engulfed the two rooms used as a dwelling place.
“Meanwhile, a 67-year-old man named Muhammad Uba and his wife, Fatima Muhammad of about 52-years-old were trapped by the smoke. Victims rescued unconscious with burns in some parts of their bodies and later confirmed death,” the Fire Service spokesman said.
He the remains of the late couple were handed over to the Ward head of the community, Muhammado Rayyanu, while the cause of the fire was still being investigated.
