Why Can’t You Scold Wike Given That Most Of You Are Older Than Him? Sowunmi Tackles PDP BoT

A former governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State, Segun Sowunmi, has questioned the way the party’s leadership is handling the situation involving the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

According to him, repeated visits by the PDP Board of Trustees (BoT) to Wike have failed to bring about meaningful results.

He, therefore, questioned why the BoT has continued to deploy the same tactics without thinking of scolding the FCT Minister for anti-party activities.

Sowunmi also questioned why the party leadership has not reached out to other aggrieved persons in the PDP, but has focused its attention on the former Rivers State Governor.

Challenging the PDP BoT, Sowunmi reminded them that they are the conscience of the party and most of them are older than Wike, so they are expected to live up to expectations in dealing with the crisis affecting the party and ensure peace is restored.

“I have never imagined the consciousness with which the men calling themselves BoT now caused the problem in the country and this democracy, that they can solve it with the same consciousness. In the first instance, we will begin to ask them, why are they singling Wike out of the situation. Why haven’t we heard from them talking about other people who are more aggrieved? Is this the first, second, or third time they are going to visit him? Why haven’t we seen that they have the courage to scold him harshly given that most of them are older than him or are they in their illustration that as the conscience of the party are so unwilling or afraid to tell him that certain things are not acceptable?

“We have styled them as the conscience of the party, so hopefully they have an institutional memory of where the party is coming from but I doubt if they have any idea of where the party is going. I wish them well and I pray they are able to come up with something that is reasonable but let’s encourage any effort in any direction that would bring help, though I would have preferred that they had a direct approach to the whole issue,” Sowunmi said during an interview with Daily Post published on Friday.
