Chelsea winger Jadon Sancho has expressed his determination to prove his critics wrong as he continues to shine on loan at Stamford Bridge.
Following a thrilling 4-3 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League, Jadon Sancho reflected on his journey and acknowledged the support he has received at Chelsea.
In the match, Sancho played a pivotal role, scoring to spark Chelsea’s comeback from an early 2-0 deficit.
“Since day one, I have felt welcomed at Chelsea. I know there are many people I want to prove wrong. I have been putting in a lot of hard work, and I want to thank the coaching staff and my teammates for believing in me and providing me with this opportunity,” Sancho told SuperSport TV.
Recall that Sancho joined Chelsea on loan from Manchester United during the summer after facing challenges in securing regular playing time under former manager Erik ten Hag.
In addition to his impressive performance, Sancho shared insights about the encouraging message from head coach Enzo Maresca during halftime. Despite being down 2-0, Sancho remained optimistic after scoring a stunning long-range goal in the 17th minute.
In the second half, Chelsea dominated the game, with Cole Palmer converting two penalties and Enzo Fernandez adding a third goal. Although Son Heung-min scored for Tottenham in injury time, it was not enough to turn the tide.
After the match, Jadon Sancho recounted Maresca’s motivating words. “Going down 2-0 in the first half was tough, but I believed we could turn it around after we got that first goal. At halftime, the gaffer assured us that we were still in the game. I have immense faith in my teammates, so I was confident we would come out strong,” the Englishman told BBC Match of the Day.
“He emphasized the importance of staying wide and creating opportunities for one-on-ones. I’ve been focusing on improving my shooting, and the staff and players have been very supportive in that regard.”
